Barbary MacaquesThe Barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), also known as the Barbary ape, inhabits the Atlas Mountains of Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco, with a small introduced population in Gibraltar. These tailless, ground dwelling monkeys measure around 60 cm (24 inches) in length, sporting light yellowish brown fur and a bald, pale pink face. Remarkably, males play an atypical role in rearing young due to uncertain paternity, contributing to the care of all infants.
